Overview
GOHA BriefSeaWorld Orlando is a theme park, zoo and aquarium in one, with big coasters alongside close-up animal encounters. It suits families with mixed thrill levels, since gentler rides for children sit next to some of Florida's most intense coasters.
SeaWorld Orlando has been open since 1973 and sits near the junction of I-4 and FL 528, about 10 minutes south of downtown Orlando and about 15 minutes from Orlando International Airport. It is best known for its animal encounters and distinctive rides.
A day here mixes animal areas with thrill rides. You can spend time at Jewel of the Sea Aquarium, Dolphin Cove, Shark Encounter and the SeaWorld Rescue Center, then head for the coasters. Younger kids have Sesame Street Land, a section with gentler rides, and there are attractions for every thrill level in between.
The coasters stand out. Mako is a hyper coaster the park calls Orlando's fastest and tallest, at about 73 mph and 200 feet. Manta puts riders face-down in a flying, inverted dive, and Ice Breaker has four launches and a beyond-vertical drop that Visit Orlando calls the steepest in Florida. Pipeline: The Surf Coaster is built to feel like surfing, and Penguin Trek in the Antarctica Realm has two launches. For something calmer, the Sky Tower lifts you about 365 feet in a rotating double-decker pod, the tallest observation tower in Florida.
