Overview
GOHA BriefESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is a sports complex of more than 260 acres at Walt Disney World, with indoor and outdoor venues that have hosted 70-plus sports. It suits athletes, coaches, families and fans, especially families who want to pair a tournament with a vacation in the area.
The complex sits in the middle of the Walt Disney World resort area, near Orlando. It opened in 1997 as Disney's Wide World of Sports and took on the ESPN name in 2010.
Most visits revolve around a sporting event, tournament or competition. The main indoor field house hosts televised basketball and other events. The Athletic Center seats about 1,200 and handles everything from basketball tournaments to cheerleading competitions. The Stadium seats about 9,500 and is a main venue for youth baseball, and 17 outdoor fields can be set up for football, soccer, baseball, softball and similar sports.
Between games, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill is a sit-down spot with big screens showing highlights, and concessions are spread around the grounds. You can also book a professional sports photographer to shoot a game or do a studio session. A Welcome Center in the central hub helps with theme park hours, restaurant reservations and group tours, which is useful since the four Disney theme parks, water parks and Disney Springs are all close by.
